“Seafood makes you live 10 years more.” -Kevin Steele

Seafood is any form of sea life that is consumed my humans. There are many different types of seafood that humans eat, such as shrimp, lobster, crab, oysters, mussels, fish, etc. Typically, most people describe seafood as being on the healthier side of foods. Seafood provides a sustainable amount of protein, generally low cholesterol, has an abundance of Omega-3 fatty acids, and has many vitamin benefits. On top of that, it all tastes delicious!

Growing up, my parents loved to take my brother and I out on seafood dates. We would usually go to Pappadeaux, Red Lobster, Joe’s Crab Shack, Shell Shack, etc. I always loved seafood, especially the shrimp and crab. However, no matter where we went, my brother would always chose chicken tenders as his meal. He claimed it didn’t smell to his liking, but he was really afraid to step out of his comfort zone. As we got older, my parents started to go on dates without my brother and I, leaving us to fend for ourselves. We weren’t really upset about it because we wanted to hang out with our friends anyways.

As I transitioned to an upperclassman in high school, my graduating class planned to hang out almost every weekend. Our favorite activities, that weren’t constructed by administration, were going to the movies, mall, and go to Shell Shack. We had a specific spot we would meet, because all of the activities were in walking distance of each other. I’m not sure why high-school students continued to decide to meet at a very expensive place, but I wasn’t complaining because I loved seafood.

When I came to college in San Marcos, I was sad because they didn’t have a seafood place. I would’ve had to travel to San Antonio or Austin to get quality seafood. However, a couple of weeks ago, a seafood food truck made its way to San Marcos. As soon as the news hit twitter and Facebook, Krab Kingz was always crowded. All of the students, residents of San Marcos, parents, etc., made their way to the food truck. They sell my favorites, crab, shrimp, sausage, corn, etc.! The thing that drew me to them the most was how inexpensive they were compared to other seafood places.

My first time going to Krab Kingz, I ordered a Kingz Jr. Sampler. I instantly fell in love. Everything was boiled to perfection. It was like heaven in my mouth. The juices of all the meats blended together perfectly. I was like a little kid at the candy store. My roommates went to the food truck with me. One of my roommates only likes fried seafood, so she got a fish and shrimp platter with fries. My other roommate got a large shrimp tray. None of us were disappointed. We made a pack that it was going to be a ritual every week.

Unfortunately, we found out that this particular food truck travels different places every week. On the bright side, it’s base location is Kyle, so it doesn’t go too far. It rotates between Kyle, San Marcos, Buda, Seguin, etc. They also cater to functions. Trust me, this opportunity is not something you want to miss. Treat yourself with good food, you deserve it!
